    cinnamon cookie christmas ornaments

    Dec 16, 2012 · 2 Comments

    Okay, raise your hand if you LOVE Christmastime!? I know I do! Christmas is without a doubt my favorite time of the year. I get to bake lots of fun treats and craft and buy people presents and make cute stuff! The cute stuff you make this holiday season should definitely include these adorable cinnamon cookie ornaments. No, you can't eat them... but they do smell amazing! And they are super easy and fun to make. Here, I'll show you.

    These require just two simple ingredients (three, if you're feeling fancy), a rolling pin, and cookie cutters! Thankfully these are much more forgiving than actual cookie dough, so if you mess up... it's okay! Just knead the dough again, re-roll, and re-cut. So easy, a five-year-old could do it. Literally. My 5 year old nannybaby helped me make these! Who spies a cute little hand in the picture above? 🙂 These little ornaments are pretty, easy, and customizable. If you decide to not hang them on your tree, then they would totally make cute gift toppers, too!

    Cinnamon Cookie Christmas Ornaments
    Adapted from Moms Review 4 You
    Yields: lots of ornaments!

    1 cup cinnamon
    1 cup applesauce
    1-2 tablespoon glitter {optional}

    Preheat the oven to 200F.
    In a medium bowl, mix together the cinnamon, applesauce, and glitter {if using} until a dough forms. Lay out a large piece of wax paper on the countertop, and place the dough on top of it. Top with another piece of wax paper, and roll out the dough with a rolling pin. You want about ¼" thickness! Remove the top piece of wax paper, and cut out shapes using desired cookie cutters. When you are done, move the ornaments to a parchment-paper lined cookie sheet. Re-knead the scraps, and make more ornaments! Using a straw, poke out holes at the top of the ornaments to hang them later.When you are all finished, bake the ornaments 2-3 hours. I made mini cookies and regular, the minis took about 2:30, while the large ones definitely needed at least 3 hours. Let them cool, then thread the holes with ribbon, and hang! 🙂
