    braided pizza bread

    Β
Happy New Year! Wheee! To celebrate, I have a recipe that's easy, delicious, Italian... and shot with my brand new camera. This was so fun! I knew my first recipe had to be special, so this is what I settled on. The sun rises and sets on pizza dough around here, so using it was only natural. I stuffed the pizza dough with ham, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese, and baked up a soft, cheesy, totally irresistible bread. Yum!
    Β

Overall, I'm just in love with this recipe! I used store-bought pizza dough to make it simple, so the prep was fast and super easy. The only thing that took less time than making it was eating it! We ate it plain, thickly sliced, and straight out of the oven... total perfection! If you're wanting more of a pizza experience, you can make some tomato sauce to dip it in. I was originally planning on doing so, but after trying it as-is, I decided there was really no need for it. πŸ™‚

If you want, you can definitely make this bread smaller... but what's the fun in that? My only real suggestion is really loading up the toppings... I thought I had put enough, but when the bread rose, they all but disappeared. Don't get me wrong, the bread was still delicious, but more cheese would have been peachy πŸ™‚ This recipe is so easy and versatile, you can fill it with anything sweet or savory you desire! May I suggest... s'mores bread? Jalapeno, cheddar, and bacon bread? Pepperoni, mushroom, and cheese bread? I'm drooling just thinking about it. πŸ™‚ I hope this post inspires you. Happy cooking!

    Recipe type: Meat & Seafood
    Cuisine: Italian
    Serves: 8
    Ingredients
    • 3 lbs store-bought pizza dough {or enough homemade dough for 3 pizzas}
    • ½ lb sliced ham
    • 2 cups sliced mushrooms, sauteed with a little olive oil and garlic salt
    • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
    • salt, pepper, and garlic salt to taste
    Instructions
    1. On a cleaned, floured surface, divide the dough into three even mounds.
    2. Take the first, and roll it out into a narrow rectangle, making sure to not make the dough too thin. Scatter your ham along the prepared dough, trying to stay in the center. Roll up the dough into a long tube, and seal the ends with a little water.
    3. Set the dough aside, and repeat with the two other pieces of dough, stuffing one with the mushrooms and one with the mozzarella... be sure to season the mozzarella before rolling up the dough!
    4. Once all three rolls are ready, start braiding, pulling and stretching the dough a bit as you go.
    5. Once the braid is completed, join the two ends into a braid.
    6. Transfer to a lightly greased jelly-roll pan, then cover with a clean tea-towel, and put in a warm place for at least one hour to rise.
    7. When ready, preheat the oven to 400F. Lightly brush the braid with a little bit of olive oil, then bake for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and crunchy. Let cool slightly, then slice and enjoy!
