mexican sugar skull cookies + more!

    Aug 2, 2013 · 3 Comments

A little while ago, the wonderful Mary Jo from RedHouse Ranch Jewelry asked me if I wanted to help her decorate some cookies. Some Mexican wedding cookies. And, well, my answer was obvious. Heck yes! These cookies were so much fun, and I am so excited to share them with you!

This project was perfect for me, because if there's one thing I hate, it's cutout cookies. I just do NOT have the patience to make dough and chill it and roll it out and cut it and ooooooof. I am getting frustrated just thinking about it! Mary Jo, on the other hand, loves making cutout cookies. So, we had a fair deal. She would make the cookies and I would decorate them. So we both got our favorite parts of the job! I can't even describe how fun it was to get to make 7 completely different sugar skull cookies... I let my creative juices flow and the cookies practically piped themselves. It definitely helped that my wonderful partner made like every single color of frosting ever. 🙂

Along with those few sugar skulls, we made a bunch of big, beautiful sacred heart cookies with flower vines...

Some small sacred hearts on a round cookie with a turquoise background...

And some Mexican embroidery square cookies! All together, we made roughly a million billion cookies. We worked all day, but it was so worth it! Oh, and last but not least, Mexican wedding cake cookies for the bride and groom. Too sweet!

No recipes in this post, just pictures. I hope this inspires you whenever you choose to make Mexican sugar skull cookies. Have fun, and happy baking! 🙂
