the easiest creamy tomato sauce | The Baking Fairy

I'm back at it again, y'all. Sharing a recipe so criminally easy that it can hardly be called a recipe...but it's delicious so here it is anyway. Creamy tomato sauce, made in no time at all, and with just like...6 ingredients. This is amazingly luscious and dreamy, and can dress up any pasta night! Who needs jarred pasta sauce anyway? Not you, that's who. Let's get to work! The pasta sauce of your dreams is just a short ways away!

Y'all ready for this grocery list? You probably have most of this stuff in the house anyways, which makes it extra easy. I just made this up with stuff I found in my fridge and pantry, which means it's a perfect weeknight "I-have-no-food-in-the-house-but-I-don't-wanna-go-shop" meal. But I digress. All you need is some canned tomato sauce, onion, olive oil, white wine {seriously! I'll explain in a sec}, heavy cream, and parmesan. And if you have some fresh basil on hand, throw that in too. Such a humble set of ingredients, but don't doubt their potential to make some magic happen.

So here's what you gotta do... heat up some olive oil and some finely chopped onion, and let it cook until the onion gets translucent and soft. Pour in some white wine and let all the alcohol cook out. Now, I know what you're thinking, "I love wine but is wine in my tomato sauce really necessary?" Yes, yes it is. It gives your tomato sauce some incredible depth of flavor and adds a little something-something that will make your tastebuds want to come back for more! Anyways... once the wine cooks out, you add in your tomato sauce, lower it down to a simmer, and let it cook for awhile. So, ya know, go read a book. Clean your house. Go on Facebook. Time will fly by! Once you're almost ready to serve, put a pot of water on for your pasta, and stir the cream, parmesan cheese, and basil into your tomato sauce. And now, assemble! Get some pasta, top with sauce, and add even more cheese if you can handle it. Aaaand- dinner is served.

This recipe is embarrassingly easy and so yummy! And honestly, it's just an extra step away from my go-to classic tomato sauce... just omit the heavy cream and you're there. Try this scrumptious, rich sauce for your next pasta night. I promise it'll become your new favorite!

    Ingredients

    • 1 29 oz can tomato sauce
    • ½ white onion finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 3-4 tablespoon white wine
    • ½ cup heavy cream
    • pinch of sugar
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 3-4 fresh basil leaves
    • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

    Instructions

    • In a medium nonstick pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add in the onion and a pinch of salt, and cook until the onion is softened and translucent. Add in the white wine, and let it cook until all the alcohol has evaporated.
    • Add in the tomato sauce, a little sugar, and salt & pepper, lower the heat to a simmer, and cover. Let the sauce cook for at least 10-15 minutes.
    • When almost ready to serve, cook your favorite pasta according to package directions.
    • Stir the heavy cream, parmesan cheese, and basil leaves into the sauce, and cook it for a few minutes longer while you wait for the pasta to be ready.
    • Once everything is ready, top pasta with the sauce and serve immediately!
