Christmas, Christmas time is heeeereee.... So time for another cookie recipe! I feel like I have totally been on a cookie roll this year. Guess I'm making up for the lack of Christmas recipes of years past 😉 Today, we are revisiting these fabulous Brownie Mix Crackle Cookies which have been so popular on Pinterest lately! The original pictures were very old and sad so I figured they deserved a little upgrade. I present to you the new and improved crackle cookie!

Just like the snowball cookies, these brownie mix crackle cookies are a total staple in my house around the holidays. The only difference is that really we tend to enjoy these little chocolate bombs all year long! As the name might suggest, these start with a box of brownie mix, which makes prep super easy. Any brownie mix will work, but I tend to go for the kind without chocolate chips as it seems to work a little better.

As y'all know, I am basically the most brownie-obsessed person ever. I got coffee brownies and vegan cappuccino brownies and cheesecake brownies and Nutella brownies and brownies with cookie dough. Brownie cookies were really just the next logical step! These brownie mix crackle cookies are just as simple to make as box-mix brownies, but in little individual portions! They still have the chewy edges and fudgy middle you love, and of course the classic brownie mix taste. I don't know what it is about brownie mix that tastes different than homemade! I think it's just a comfort, memory thing at this point. 🙂

Brownie mix crackle cookies are so simple and delicious, and you and your family will love them! You can recruit kids to help if you're not afraid of a little powdered sugar mess 😉 If you're into peppermint, you can even add in a little bit of mint extract or some crushed candy canes for a more Christmas-y twist! Happy baking and happy holidays! 🙂

    Make it vegan!

    • For a vegan version, just replace the 3 eggs with 3 "flax" eggs. Simply combine 3 tablespoons of ground flaxseed with 9 tablespoons of water. Mix this up first and let it thicken as you prepare the rest!
    • Make sure that your boxed brownie mix is vegan-friendly and does not have eggs or dairy. Betty Crocker's Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix is "accidentally" vegan and found in most grocery stores!

Ooh, how great do these look? I have to make a dessert for Christmas Eve so I'm bookmarking these as an option. (Love anything chocolate/brownie)

I just mixed up the dough for this. It's pretty sticky so I am sticking it in the fridge for an hour before I roll it in powdered sugar! My kids are so excited

I never comment on recipes I find online but this is a cookie I have never been able to do to my satisfaction from scratch... I made sure to *barely* bake them so they stayed fudgy and chewy and these were PERFECTION! Thank you so much for sharing!

Great recipe! I love chocolate mint combinations at Christmas time and this cookie is perfect with a white chocolate “candy cane kiss” on top! It tastes divine and looks pretty on a cookie tray! Definitely making more. Thanks!!!

These were absolutely amazing! I made them gluten free with the King Arthur Gluten Free Fudge Brownie Mix and they turned out so good! I will definitely be making these again!

I don’t know. These cookies stayed in a ball, not flattening and not crackling.
I followed the directions perfectly. I use an 18.3 ounce brownie box, 20 ounce
not available. I won’t make them again. My dough was small clumps.

This was such a quick, easy recipe! I was running low on flour and looking for a sweet quarantine treat for my family. My 13 year old son was able to whip them up and they turned out almost exactly like the original recipe I made at Christmas--just half the work! Love the shortcuts that don't taste like shortcuts...they were delicious--thanks!

Does it make a difference if the powdered sugar is sifted or not?

Not really - just watch for any hard lumps of sugar 🙂

They were not mixing well with my spoon so I had to mix with my hands which was pretty messy but overall a very good recipe. Will be making again.

I used rubber gloves, no sticking. Also used the parchment paper. Put the dough in fridge for an hour. I did half flour and half cocoa they are perfect.

I LOVE this recipe. I’ve used it so many times over the last few years. Everyone loves them. I’ve used other similar recipes and none of them compare. I love the Pillsbury mix, turns out the best.

Hi Michelle! I do not usually freeze my cookies so I am not sure. You can certainly freeze the dough but I do worry that freezing the finished cookies will melt off the powdered sugar!

Thank you for the recipe - these turned out perfect!! I did make one change - instead of a whole cup of flour, I used 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of cocoa - just to give it an extra bit of chocolate flavor. Very delicious and pretty.
