Happy Saturday! Father's Day is tomorrow already, can y'all even believe it? I started this recipe out as a way to fulfill the wishes of my trusty Facebook fans, but it then ended up as the perfect Father's Day meal. That's what I call a win-win situation. 🙂 These Bacon-Wrapped BBQ Turkey Tenders are the perfect dish to celebrate dad! I took some turkey tenders I had in the freezer, wrapped them in bacon, smothered them in my mom's super secret { well, not for much longer } BBQ ribs sauce, and threw them on the grill. They came out so yummy! Let me show you how it's done.

My mom normally makes this heavenly sauce/marinade only when the makes her ribs, but as I was preparing my turkey and bacon, I couldn't help but think that plain BBQ sauce was just too boring to use. Her version includes BBQ sauce, along with mustard, brown sugar, honey, garlic powder, and ketchup. It's a random mixture of stuff but the result is fabulous! The brown sugar and honey caramelize on the grill and leave a sweet note, which is easily balanced out by the tangyness of the mustard and smoky flavor of the BBQ sauce. Altogether, it just works perfectly!

Turkey can easily be dry when cooked, but between the wrapped bacon and the generous layer of sauce, these babies were juicy and delicious. So good! Make these for your dad this Sunday and watch him swoon. If you're curious about that jalapeno potato salad on the plate, not to worry! I will have that posted later today so you can make this whole meal for Father's Day. Happy cooking!

    Ingredients

    • 8-10 large turkey or chicken tenders
    • 8-10 slices of thin-cut bacon
    • 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
    • 1 tablespoon mustard
    • 1 tablespoon ketchup
    • 1 tablespoon honey
    • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 tablespoon wine or wine vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon water
    • pinch of salt

    Instructions

    • First, fire up your grill to medium-high. As it heats, prepare your turkey!
    • If your tenders are thick or uneven, first use a meat mallet to slightly thin them and even them out.
    • Grab one slice of bacon, and wrap it around one tender, using toothpicks to secure the ends. Repeat with all the meat.
    • Now, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard, honey, brown sugar, garlic powder, wine vinegar, water, and a little salt. Mix together.
    • Once the grill is hot, place all the turkey tenders on the heat, and brush one side with the prepared BBQ sauce. Close the grill, and let them cook for 6-7 minutes undisturbed.
    • Then, flip the tenders, and brush the other side with the sauce. Let cook for 5-6 minutes longer.
    • Remove from heat and serve immediately!
